Film Technopole

Landscape pro­ject – the Image Technopole is envi­sio­ned as a vast Mediterranean park orga­ni­sed around a large gar­den. Loci Anima chose not to den­sify this stra­te­gic entry point to the city of Cannes, ins­tead using the site’s exis­ting vege­ta­tion to carve out an urban park.

Functions that do not need natu­ral light (cinema, bow­ling alley, cer­tain shops) are buried, while those that do are sus­pen­ded so that nature calls the shots. The digi­tal hall the­re­fore floats 4.5 m above the gar­den, pre­sen­ting pas­sers-by with a convex giant screen that plays moving images.

At the heart of the com­plex, a shade-weave (ombrière) threads around the tal­lest trees, lin­king the buil­dings, ter­races and land­sca­ped park. It casts a light, dap­pled sha­dow that both covers and orga­nises the gree­nery beneath. Pine sha­dows mingle with the urban canopy; grassy slopes become ter­races; and volumes clad in hori­zon­tal ​“scales” rise from the ground like metal­lic strata in the fre­shly model­led topo­gra­phy.
