Located on Place de Clichy in Paris, the Pathé Wepler cinema underwent a major renovation between 2018 and 2020, led by the architecture firm Loci Anima under the direction of Françoise Raynaud, in collaboration with designer Ora-ïto. The goal was to modernize the venue while preserving its iconic character.
An Iconic and Innovative Façade
The centerpiece of the renovation is a striking structure made from recycled flax fiber, measuring 26 meters long and 8 meters high, framing a giant LED screen. This façade — the largest composite flax fiber structure in the world — revives the tradition of grand cinema marquees while bringing a distinctly contemporary flair.
An Enhanced Cinematic Experience
The Pathé Wepler now features 11 screening rooms, including one equipped with 4DX technology and another with immersive Dolby Atmos sound, offering audiences a unique sensory experience. Interior spaces have been redesigned to improve comfort and accessibility, with the addition of duo seating and an emphasis on ergonomic layout.
Seamless Urban Integration
Situated in the heart of the 18th arrondissement, the cinema now integrates fluidly into its urban surroundings thanks to an organic architectural design. The renovation also included a reorganization of the commercial and office spaces, optimizing the site’s overall functionality.
This project demonstrates Loci Anima’s ability to transform historic landmarks into modern, high-performance spaces while respecting their heritage and identity.
